Linalool is a natural constituent of lavender. Under the proper storage conditions and formula stability, this can be minimized. Certain manufacturers do include other substances in the products to delay this oxidation process.

Biossance includes Linalool on the ingredient list only because it is a component of lavender and not because it is added as a separate ingredient.

Phenoxyethanol is a widely used synthetic preservative that has global approval for use in all cosmetic products in concentrations up to 1%. Despite the scary sounding name, there is no free phenol in phenoxyethanol. It is only considered an irritant to skin, eyes and lungs as a stand-alone ingredient (i.e., in a concentration of 100%.) In a finished formula, it makes up less than 1% in products, often times less. This is used to ensure that products remain free of bacteria and mold growth.
