International Women’s Day: 5 Easy Ways to Inspire Change from the Biossance Team

The Biossance brand was built on changemaking with our shark-safe squalane. But our commitment to clean, healthy, abundant oceans is just the beginning. We’re also passionate about supporting and empowering women, and our all-female leadership team proudly practices what they preach both in the office and at home.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we’re sharing some of the ways we’re teaching the young women in our lives to build on our legacy of impactful action.

1. Be Inclusive

Creating a world which truly empowers women begins and ends with inclusivity.

“I strive to set a positive example for my daughter by consistently demonstrating inclusive behavior and showing respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds in all my actions,”  says Christine Sauveur, Business Analyst, Channel Planner

Including marginalized voices in conversation enriches the dialogue with diverse opinions and perspectives that elevate everyone involved.

2. Teach Empathy

Teaching young women to support one another begins by emphasizing empathy. When we step outside our own feelings and away from the stories we tell ourselves about any given situation, it’s easier to see how working together can improve things for the group as a whole.

“I've taught my girls that you never know what someone else is going through. A little kindness goes a long way!” says Heather Steele, Customer Care Specialist Lead.

3. Practice Self-Empowerment

Feeling empowered starts with positive self-talk. That’s why the women of Biossance strive to teach their daughters that they have a basic right to self-determination that is equal to that of any partner they may someday choose.

“I tell my daughters to always empower themselves and be strong on their own two feet before they stand next to someone else,” says Nancy Malloy, Vice President, Global Education.

When we look in the mirror and see a whole person – as opposed to someone waiting to be completed by another – it’s easier to make choices and choose partners that help us accomplish our goals and dreams.

4. Use Your Voice

Teaching our daughters to honor and advocate for their core values empowers them to set clear, healthy boundaries.

“I’ve taught my daughter to be true to herself, stand up for her beliefs, and always look her best because looking good is feeling good,” says Rebecca Gray, Influencer Outreach Manager.

5. Use Your Strengths to Create Positive Change

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the face of big challenges. But any action towards positive change – no matter how small – can inspire others to also take action to exponential results.

If you’re wondering what you can do, start with what you’re good at. Then, use your talents to put something positive out in the world.

“I’m teaching my goddaughter to empower herself through her creativity and imagination. These incredible talents are her keys to enacting positive change,” says Charmette Deasis, Director, Global Site Experience
