Is Squalane Oil Good For Eczema? One Biossance Customer’s Journey Of Healing

If you’re one of the more than 31 million Americans who suffer from eczema, you’re all too familiar with the itchy, red, and painful patches that are symptomatic of this common condition. What you may not know is that using squalane for eczema can help reduce its appearance as well as the discomfort causes. In fact, the National Eczema Association has honored three of our products - all containing squalane - with their Seal of Acceptance™.

What Is Eczema?

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition that causes itchy, dry skin, scaly patches, blisters, and sometimes infection. With a cluster of causes that can be hard to pin down (environmental and emotional stressors, genetics, immune activation), eczema can be equally tricky to treat. That’s why we had to share Biossance customer Leslie M.’s story.

100% squalane oil, ultra hydrating, head-to-toe multitasker

Is Squalane Oil Good For Eczema?

When Leslie M. began suffering from red, sore, itchy, raised patches on her forearms in her 40’s, she never dreamed it would be the beginning of a 20-year ordeal. “I had a couple of patches on my legs but it seemed to be creeping up the full length of my arms,” said Leslie, now 65. She visited her doctor, who diagnosed her with a dry skin condition that normally affected the leg area. She left with a prescription that didn’t ultimately provide relief.

“Two years ago I saw a dermatologist for the first time and he said, Didn’t anyone ever tell you that you have eczema? He said he could prescribe something but it probably wouldn’t work any better than keeping the area moisturized, which I had been doing,” says Minch.

It seemed like she was back at square one. Then she discovered Biossance.

“I started to apply 100% Squalane Oil every morning and within a week or two it totally eliminated the itching, which at times had become unbearable,” says Leslie.

Recently, Leslie realized she’d fallen out of the habit of applying squalane for eczema daily.“I’ve started up again, not because of itching (that hasn’t returned) but  redness and scaling. You can see some very minor raised skin but overall my arms are smooth for the first time in decades,” says Leslie. In a clinical study, 95% of participants agreed skin felt instantly hydrated and softer after 7 days

 What Is Squalane?

The link between squalane and eczema starts with the story behind our hero ingredient.

We developed sustainable, sugarcane-derived squalane to replace squalene, an emollient naturally found in human skin. The amount of squalene in our skin decreases as we get older, which led beauty companies to begin sourcing squalene from shark livers to use in their moisturizing products.

We knew there had to be a better way.Biossance found a way to produce squalane as safely and effectively as the body does - without harming sharks. Our squalane comes from 100% plant-based, renewable sugarcane, then bio-fermented to produce a beautiful end result: highly stable, totally sustainable and eco-friendly squalane.

Why Squalane May Help Reduce Your Eczema Symptoms

So how are squalane and eczema connected? Squalane is the skin’s best moisturizer and is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin with eczema. By providing instant hydration that is bioidentical to the skin’s own moisture, squalane works to improve the dry, red, itchy, painful patches associated with eczema. “I’m no longer embarrassed to bare my arms,” says Leslie M.  “Thank you Biossance!”
